The International DRH MovementWe are a group of schools, that is actively fighting for the poor and downtrodden in this world. We believe, that if people organize and work together, each of us can make a difference in this world. For most of us, we can only do so much. But if we pull in the same direction, the combined result of each of our contribution will be larger than the sum. We work with Humana People to People, which is a Federation of development organizations in Europe and USA, and organizations in Africa, Central and South America, and Asia. DRH means “Den Rejsende Højskole” which is Danish for “The Travelling Folk High School”. Movement means move forward, shoulder to shoulder, to face the challenges that lies ahead for most of human kind, and actively do something about to improve the living conditions for the many people on this planet. The first DRH school was established in 1970 at Tvind. Some of the teachers and students of the DRH schools started Humana People to People in 1977. It was first called Ulandshjælp fra Folk til Folk (Development Aid from People to People), and later developed into several organizations in European countries called Humana People to People. Later on Planet Aid was started in USA and joined the Federation. The European and US organizations focus on fund raising for the projects in other parts of the world. In Africa, the organizations started in the 70's with aid to the fight against apartheid and to the newly independent countries of Mozambique, Angola and Guinea Bissau. The work has now developed into education, health issues like the fight against HIV/AIDS, farming, community development and other types of projects. At the schools in the DRH-Movement, we are training volunteers to work at the projects managed by Humana People to People. The training takes place at schools in Denmark, Norway, UK, USA and St. Vincent in the Caribbean. The volunteers will go through a 6-12 months training program at the school and then work for 6-12 months at a designated project. Then there is a period back on the school. You don't need special requirements to join the schools of The DRH-Movement as a volunteer. The minimum age is 18 years to start the work at the project. Come and join our program.
