People often see HIV/AIDS as a terrifying thing, which will disappear if we just close our eyes.

Even though this deadly disease has been part of our lives for two decades now, the level of ignorance, misinformation and disinterest we still hold about the virus and the disease it leads to, is astonishing.

World AIDS Day is about keeping up the fight against HIV and AIDS. It's about supporting over 34 million people across the world living with HIV and AIDS. It's about the fact that 8,000 people worldwide die from AIDS every single day. It's about fighting the prejudice faced by people living with HIV. It's about making people in power take action.

It is we, who can show our support for those infected and affected by HIV/AIDS, raise awareness among the public, demonstrate respect and compassion and encourage other people to take steps to prevent HIV. We are here – we are in the forefront and therefore we should act. You as an individual can promote safer sex, provide people with information so they can change attitudes and raise awareness.

You do not have to be professional, you do not have to know everything – we provide you with training and knowledge. The only thing you need to have is the will to help other people. Humana People to People is doing it’s part through the HOPE project and our latest HIV/AIDS program TCE. But we cannot do it alone – this fight is not just for us or you to fight, we should join our hands in an effort to become a strong, vital and energetic unit in order to achieve the goals that we have set together.
