Points of consideration
By now you should have an idea of what this is all about. Before you
read on to find out how you could enroll for one of the programmes, we
would like to draw your attention to a few more issues. We would like you
to consider those before proceeding to the next part about the finances
and the practicalities.
- KwaZulu-Natal Experimental College is new and has as aim to always
stay "new", thus inventing new programmes, new methods and
new ideas to keep at the heart of development. It can only function
when the participants see themselves as an important element in making
it happen.
- KwaZulu-Natal Experimental College offers an education for your
head, hands and heart, be prepared to use them all!
Time off
If you start in the November team you will have 2 weeks off over
Christmas and New Year, during which there is no programme at the school.
If you start in the April team, you will have 2 weeks off during the
Winter holiday in June/July.
The rest of the time you are participating in a scheduled, full programme
that includes evenings and weekends.
Rules and regulations
At KwaZulu-Natal Experimental College and at the projects of Humana
People to People we have a very strict policy when it comes to alcohol and
drugs. NO alcohol and drugs are allowed during the entire time of the 14
months programme, whether this is in or outside the school’s premises.
Some of the reasons for this policy are that:
- with our objectives and ambitions we have no time for being drugged.
- throughout the entire programme you either represent the school or
Humana People to People
- we preserve that the programme is open for everyone.
It is important that you take a stand to this rule before enrolling and
consider whether you are willing to obey this rule.
Due to the realities of the places where we work, the projects have
certain security regulations. You will be explained about the regulations
upon arrival and you will be asked to stick to these regulations for your
own and other’s safety.
Enrollment Procedure
Before making a final decision, we encourage you to find out more about
us, our partners and our work. You can contact us at any time via phone,
fax, e-mail or ordinary mail. And you can have a look at our partner’s
websites.
If you are interested, please fill out the guestbook and you will receive
an application form.
If you live near enough you will then be invited for an information
meeting followed by an introduction weekend at the school. Otherwise you
might participate at an information meeting and weekend at one of our
sister schools, or the meeting takes place on the phone or on the net. You
will still participate in an information weekend prior to the team start.
In this way we can get to know each other and help you to make a qualified
decision.
Finances
You pay a once only enrollment fee of R1400 to book your place on a
team. This is a nonrefundable payment.
The course fees are R4500 per month. R2500 comes from your own payment and
R2000 comes from the fundraising. In total you pay: R2500 x 8 months
=R20.000. This entire amount needs to be paid before course start.
The course fees includes boarding, education, transport, the travel from
the school to the project and back and other programme related expenses.
The only money you would need is some pocket money.
During your time at the project, Humana People to People pays you an
allowance to cover your basic living costs, insurance and some pocket
money. This allowance is paid in the local currency of the country you are
working in on a weekly basis. It will also include the money needed for
your investigation period.
There are some scholarships available to cover a part of the course fees,
for those who need it most. Please contact us on how to apply for them. |
